The next morning
I watch from the bed as Lukeâs towel falls from his waist to the floor as he rounds the corner from the bathroom to shower.
Pulling the down comforter up to my neck I melt into the mattress.
I canât help but smile, thinking of how books have always been such a big part of my life and now Lukeâs even used a few from the room to prop the broken end of the bed back up. When I suggested we just tell the hotel and take another room, he looked at me like I was crazy, telling me that he wasnât about to allow anyone to come inside the room. The night was ours, and the memory, the visualsâ¦even including the room, would be shared by no one.
The man is possessive, thereâs no doubt about it.
But just as heâs possessive about me and my body, heâs also possessive about taking the strain of day to day living from my mind and handling it all on his own. I should be worried about moving out, paying taxes, and being responsible for myself. Talk about a step up from just worrying about passing a simple high school exam.
Luke isnât having any of that. When I asked him in the middle of the night what he has planned he told me not to worry my pretty little head about it, his words exactly. That heâs got it all figured out and all taken care of. The craziest part is that I trust him enough to just allow him to fold his protective wings around me and take that responsibility, that burden off my plate.
Iâm so used to boys my age who sit back and do nothing, and who have no backbone. Most âguysâ these days are just as bad as reality show women when it comes to gossip and criticizing. He has no time, energy, or desire for that. I would say heâs focused on solving problems, but with him, there never seem to be problems. Heâs always got them solved before they even become issues, although Iâve certainly created one for him when it comes to his current employment situation.
He promised me that itâs nothing, that it will pass, or if not he can always get a job in a new city. He shrugs it off as if it doesnât even matter, all the while Iâm pretty sure this penthouse suite isnât exactly something a man on a police officerâs salary could afford for more than a night or two.
I used to think a guy who tried to force all his decisions on you would be more of something along the lines of a macho douchebag. But now the fantasy, the reality, of Luke is just too enticingâ¦too much to really believe. The most incredible part is that heâs not so dominating that he wonât let me think for myself, and even encourages my dream of being a crime reporter.
I expected to be an insignificant cog in the churning wheel of
